Refit Guide is a curation of the best techniques and gear to improve your boat. We take pride in presenting the most thorough, accurate, and up-to-date information available on every topic we cover.
Our readers are current or prospective boat owners. They tend to be younger than the average boater. Many are even younger than the boat they are refitting. Our readers tend to have more dispensable time and energy than money. They’re not cheap, but they are thrifty and often do the work themselves rather than pay someone to do it. They were likely compiling their own research when they found Refit Guide, and were relieved to find that someone already did the work. They don’t want to hear a rambling yarn or a marketing pitch for the latest frivolous gadget; they just want to learn how to improve their boat.
Our contributors are avid mariners from all over the world and share many of the same attributes as our readers. They combine their years of experience with countless hours of research and testing to uncover the best techniques and gear to improve any boat. We work closely with our contributors to produce content that is highly valuable to our readers and meets our quality standards.
Interested in contributing? Great! Here are some ways to get started.
The easiest way to contribute is to give feedback on existing articles. If you find an article that is incomplete, inaccurate, out of date, or could be improved in any way, click the link at the bottom of the article to let us know. We especially appreciate feedback on our most recent and most outdated articles.
Maintain an article
We commit to keeping every article fresh. If you give regular feedback, we may ask you to help maintain an article or set of articles in exchange for 50% of the profits on those articles. Let us know if you are interested.
Contribute a new article
New in-depth articles are published every week on a wide variety of topics related to outfitting, refitting, and maintaining a boat. We are actively looking for new contributors and welcome inquires.
We expect that you have significant experience with the topic you are writing about, and are willing to supplement it with exhaustive research. Your experience has helped you form a philosophy that is compatible with ours, and you possess a level of empathy that allows you to understand the needs of others.
Most feature articles will take at least 20-40 hours to research, write, and edit. We will work closely with you throughout the process to ensure the article meets our quality standards. After publication, you will be asked to occasionally revise and update it.
We pay a $300–$1000 USD stipend per article (depending on the complexity), plus 50% of any profit generated from the article (see how we make money for more). The stipend is paid when the article is published. We split all profits 50/50 with active contributors after the costs of publishing and marketing the article have been recouped.
